The Story Behind Storyboarding
A storyboard is when you take all the shots or images in a composition and draw them out. Basically, this is a way to visualize (or even brainstorm) a story before it is filmed or animated, and even graphic designer s use this method.
How Does Storyboarding Help Create Film Masterpieces?
Before making a character, in 3-D or 2-D, a basic outline, or wireframe, of it is made. The basic shape is then created, then the details and so on. That is the same principle used in movies and videos by directors worldwide.
This method’s utilization is key to spotting potential problems before they occur. Storyboarding is commonly used in films, video games, and TV shows, as all stories need a beginning, middle, and an end. On that note, a story board helps put all the pieces together in a way that makes sense.
How is a Storyboard Made?
Want to know how to storyboard? There are two different manners of storyboarding.
Storyboards are created by hand or on the computer. If by hand, you would need a template, which looks like a comic book without the words or pictures. Storyboard templates can easily be found and downloaded or printed from the internet. Each shot (including speech or sounds effects) is then drawn into individual boxes to show coherence. If you want to make storyboards digitally, then it will be easier to visualize because they show precisely what the camera will record.
You can even use the same lenses the camera will use to see exactly how a shot will look. The only disadvantage to this type of storyboard technique is that it takes a considerate amount of time to make the shots.
