Common titles for editor jobs are content editor, book reviewer, quality assurance evaluator, copy editor, writer, copywriter, and proofreader.

Copy editing is the work that an editor does to improve the style, formatting and accuracy of text. Unlike general editing, copy editing often does not involve changing the substance of the text. Copy refers to typewritten or written text for printing, typesetting, or publication.

Copy editing jobs can be summarized in 5 points

Make it consistent.

What Is the Role Of A Copy Editor?

In other words, copy editors should make it say what it means, and mean what it says. Usually, copy editing involves correcting grammar, semantics, spelling, terminology, timelines, jargon, punctuation, and ensuring that the text adheres to the publisher’s style. A copy editor may shorten the text, to improve it or to fit length limits. This is particularly done in periodical publishing, where copy must be formated to fit the layout, and the text changed to ensure there are no ‘short lines’.

Oftentimes, copy editors are also responsible for incorporating any “display copy“, such as photo captions, standardized headers and footers, and headlines. Although proofreading is a distinct task from copy editing, it is one frequently performed by copy editors.

Copy editors are expected to ensure that the text flows, is sensible, is fair, is accurate, and that any legal problems pertaining to the document have been addressed. If an assertion seems questionable or if a passage is unclear, the copy editor may ask the writer to clarify it.

Sometimes, the copy editor is the only person, other than the writer, to read an entire text before its publication, and, for this reason, newspaper copy editors are considered the publication’s “last line of defense”.

The responsibilities that come with copy editor jobs may vary considerably from one publication to another.

What Is An Audio Video Splitter?

An A/V splitter, or RCA connector, is a type of electrical connector commonly used to carry audio and video signals. RCA stands for Radio Corporation of America, which introduced this design to allow mono phonograph players to be connected to amplifiers.

RCA sockets, or jacks, can be used for a variety of audio/visual outputs.

In the most normal usage, A/V cables have a standard plug on each end, consisting of a central male connector, surrounded by a ring. Connections are made by pushing the cable’s plug into the female jack on the device.

As with many other connectors, the A/V splitter has been adopted for other uses than originally intended, including as a power connector, an RF (radio frequency) connector, and as a connector for loudspeaker cables.

RCA connectors are often color-coded depending on what type of audio/visual setup you want.

For instance with analog audio and composite video:

Yellow is for composite video
Red is for the right audio channel
White or Black is for the left audio channel in a stereo system

With surround sound, the RCA connectors are:

Green for the center
Blue for the left speaker
Gray for the right speaker
Brown for the left back speaker
Tan for the right back speaker
Purple for the sub-woofer

These combinations of jacks can be found on the back of almost all audio and video equipment. Although not mentioned here, most modern day audio/visual devices (like TVs and DVD players) also have an s video adapter found on the back.

At least one set is typically found on the front panel of modern TV sets, to facilitate connection of camcorders, digital cameras, and video gaming consoles.

The Disadvantages of Audio Video Splitters

Another problem with the RCA connectors is that each signal requires its own plug.

Even the simple case of attaching a CD Management System may need four of them, two for stereo input and two for stereo output.

In any common setup this quickly leads to a mess of cables and confusion in how to connect them. This situation is made worse if one incorporates more complex signals like component video (a total of three for video and two for analog audio or one for digital coaxial audio).

Another disadvantage of av splitters is a loud hum or buzz heard if the audio components are powered while making connections. This happens due to the signal-carrying pin protruding from the plug coming into contact with the socket before the grounded rings meet, resulting in the aforementioned buzz or hum. Continuous noise can occur if the plug partially falls out of the jack, which breaks the ground connection but not the signal.
